GOLDEN VISA PROGRAM

Portugal is a peaceful and welcoming country with a long tradition of successful integration of foreign communities. Now, it also has one of the best programmes for obtaining residence permits for foreign investors.

In exchange for investment in Portugal, a Residence Permit is issued (GOLDEN VISA) offering to the holder:
• Exemption from other visa requirements to enter Portugal
• The right to live and work in Portugal, while maintaining residence in another country
• Exemption from visa requirements to travel within the Schengen Area
• Family reunion.

Holders of Golden Visas can extend these benefits to direct family members.

In order to be eligible for the programme, an investor must invest in Portugal in one of five ways:
1. Creation of at least 10 new jobs;
2. Transfer of capital in an amount equal to or greater than €500,000.00, which is applied to research activities carried out by public or private scientific research institutions;

3. Capital transfer of an amount equal to or greater than € 250,000.00, which is used to invest in or support artistic production, recovery or maintenance of national cultural heritage;
4. Capital transfers of an amount equal to or greater than €500,000.00 intended for the acquisition of shares in non-real estate collective investment undertakings, where 60% of the value of the investments is made in commercial companies based in Portugal;
5. Capital transfers of €500,000.00 or more, intended for the incorporation of a commercial company with its headquarters in Portugal, combined with the creation of five permanent jobs, or to increase the share capital of a commercial company with its headquarters in Portugal, already incorporated, with the creation of at least five permanent jobs or the maintenance of at least ten jobs, with a minimum of five permanent ones, and for a minimum period of three years;

The type of investment may be changed during the investment period. The property acquired may be rented and generate income for the investor.

Investors must not have any prior criminal record in the Schengen Area or country of origin. They are required to stay, on average, 7 days a year in Portugal.
