GOLDEN VISA PROGRAM

Portugal is a peaceful and welcoming country with a long tradition of successful integration of foreign communities. Now, it also has one of the best programmes for obtaining residence permits for foreign investors.

In exchange for investment in Portugal, a Residence Permit is issued (GOLDEN VISA) offering to the holder:
• Exemption from other visa requirements to enter Portugal
• The right to live and work in Portugal, while maintaining residence in another country
• Exemption from visa requirements to travel within the Schengen Area
• Family reunion.

Holders of Golden Visas can extend these benefits to direct family members.

In order to be eligible for the programme, an investor must invest in Portugal in one of three ways:
• Acquire property with a minimum value of €500,000
• Transfer capital with a minimum value of €1,000,000
• Create 10 jobs

The type of investment may be changed during the investment period. The property acquired may be rented and generate income for the investor.

Investors must not have any prior criminal record in the Schengen Area or country of origin. They are required to stay, on average, 7 days a year in Portugal.

Location

Portugal enjoys an excellent geographic position. At the convergence of three continents – Europe, Africa and America –, has always been a central point for the most important international routes. Portugal is a privileged business platform for East and West: to the first, is an important gateway to the EU market and a privileged platform for the relationship with the Portuguese-speaking African countries; to the latter, is a transatlantic bridge and central point for important international routes.

Climate

In general, Portuguese climate tends to be mild throughout the year, with long, hot summers, mild springs and autumns and relatively mild winters, although temperatures and climatic conditions are marked by strong local differences. In southern latitudes, Portugal has a Mediterranean climate.

People

Portuguese people are warm and welcoming. They welcome all visitors, wherever they come from. Indeed, they come from everywhere in the world since the country is situated on the West Coast of Europe, and therefore an entry into the Schengen area. Portugal is a multi-ethnic/religious country, and a harmonious relationship exists. Much of the population speaks foreign languages, particularly English. As a workforce, a significant part of the active population presents a high level of education in a wide range of fields, especially in Business & Administration and new Technologies, with high motivation and adaptability.

Education

At Portugal, you can have access to a high-quality, public and private, education system. You have the opportunity to learn the third most widely spoken European language in the world, making a bridge to Africa and Brazil. If you prefer an international environment, note that there are several International Schools throughout the country, attended by both Portuguese and foreign students. Over there, students can join international programs such as the “International Baccalaureate (IB) program,” or the “British GCSE and GCE examination systems”.

Infrastructures

Portugal has very well developed physical and IT Infrastructure. The country is among those with some of the most advanced communication systems. Has a very recent road network, with one of the highest density highway system that provides direct connections to Spain and Central Europe. Additionally, Portugal has 3 international airports in the mainland and 7 in the Azores and Madeira Islands with regular daily flights to all major world cities. By sea, the 3 main ports (Leixões, Lisbon, and Sines) have regular cargo lines, linking Portugal to the North, Central and South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Middle East and dedicated train lines to expedite goods.

Business environment

Portugal is a founding member of the European Union and the euro zone. The EU is now established as one trading area with no internal fares and with common standards applying to virtually the full range of commercial life. Portugal a politically stable environment with a democratically elected parliamentary government and is very welcoming of foreign business and investment. The Portuguese is committed to attract FDI, expanding trade with South America, Africa, and Asia, focusing on niche sectors of the economy such as tourism, renewable energy, high quality industrial components, technology services, and value-added agricultural products. Portugal is one of the lower commercial cost business environments in Western Europe.
